Abstract

ABSTRACT The Arabic language held a prestigious position during the Ottoman era, becoming the official language of the Ottoman state, as well as the language of science and culture, after having primarily been the language of religion. The state of the Arabic language is not as dire as some might think since the arrival of colonizers; it has remained the language of religion and a language of science and culture among scholars and Arabic language students to this day. Recently, with the establishment of numerous Arabic language departments in various Nigerian universities, Arabic has gained more recognition, being offered to all university students regardless of their majors under the title "Communication in Arabic." Due to the importance of this subject, the authors undertook this study. The significance of this article lies in its support for researchers to understand the importance of the Arabic language for other academic disciplines with their varying goals and purposes, and how it connects different fields to enhance benefits and knowledge exchange. Among the scientific objectives of this article are: understanding students' interest in this subject, identifying the challenges faced by the course instructor, the students, and the subject itself. To achieve these goals, the researchers adopted two main methodologies: the inductive method and the descriptive-analytical method. Some of the key findings the researchers arrived at include: Students from other disciplines have a strong desire to continue studying Arabic, many students are eager to spend time in Arab countries. One of the main challenges facing this course is the limited time allocated to it and the lack of depth, as it includes only a small portion of Arabic language content.
