TAX ADMINISTRATION POLICY AND PRIVATE EDUCATION SECTOR INVESTMENT IN OGUN STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

This study examined tax administration policy and its impact on private investment in education sector. The study is a descriptive survey of correlation type. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 100 respondents comprising proprietors and state tax officers in Abeokuta, and Ijebu-Ode municipalities. Tax Administration and Investment in Private Education Sector Questionnaire”(TAIPESQ) was used to gather information from the respondents. The instrument was validated and the reliability test conducted yielded a coefficient value of .75. Research questions and hypotheses were formulated for the study. Descriptive statistics of percentages was used to answer the questions raised while inferential statistics of Pearson product moment correlation statistic was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the findings revealed that there was a significant relationship between tax administration policy and investment in private education in Ogun State secondary schools (r of 0.333> r 0.116).Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that: government should streamline all tax agencies into one single agency to avoid multiple taxes and consider tax reduction and waivers to lessen the burdens of taxes.
