Abstract
Novel mixed complexes of Ni(II) and Co(II) with Amodiaquine and Acetylsalicyclic acid have been synthesized. Their probable structure has been ascertained and the complexes were characterized by infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and antimicrobial screening against some selected bacteria. The ligands were found to act as bidentate chelating. In Amodiaquine, coordination occurs through the nitrogen of amino acid and nitrogen atom of the pyridine ring to form an Octahedral geometry while in acetylsalicyclic acid, coordination occurs through the oxygen of alcohol group and the oxygen of the carbonyl group as shown. The XRD results of [Ni(AMD)(ASA)Cl2] shows that the complexes exhibits some crystalline morphology. Hence, Octahedral geometry has assigned and proposed for the synthesized complexes. Evaluation of antibacterial activities of the complexes has been investigated against some isolated organisms: K. pneumonia B. subtilis, E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and S. faecalis. It has been observed that the complexes were found to be more active against the bacteria.
