Abstract
Six new complexes(C1-C6):Co(II), Fe(II), Zn(II), VO(II) and Cd(II) ions bearing difluoromethylornithine hydrochloride hydrate (DMH) have been synthesized and characterized using EA, FTIR, ESI-MS,NMR, magnetic susceptibility measurements etc. From FTIR spectra, shift on ligand’s carboxylate and amino group around central metal ions depicts either octahedral or tetrahedral geometries. All other measures support the expected molecular for the complexes. The results of conductivity measurements showed that the ligand and its metal complexes are electrolytes. Except oxovanadium (IV) complex which showed decreased activity against all the test microorganisms, Co(II) and Fe(II) complexes showed higher activities than the parent antibiotic (streptomycin) used. Thus, metal based drugs stand tall for recommendation in pharmacy among chemotherapeutic agents.
